A Senedd petition calling for the name Wales to be abolished has been signed by thousands of people. It was set up by Arfon Jones from Old Colwyn and runs until June 13 2024.

It said: "Wales is a name imposed on Cymru and is essentially not a Welsh word at all. It has already racked up All petitions that gain over 250 signatures, will be discussed by the Welsh Government Petitions Committee and if it gains over 10,000, it will be considered for a debate in the Senedd.

Mr Jones wrote: "The world knows about Wales because of its English connection since 1282. Hardly anyone has heard of Cymru or realises that we have our own unique language and culture which is totally different from the other countries within the United Kingdom." https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/ditch-wales-cymru-only-petition-28387961?utm_source=north_wales_live_newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=North+Wales+Live+-+Daily+Newsletter_newsletter&utm_content=&utm_term=&ruid=43967a34-7fda-4705-8316-3a8a4d34fd16
