Dear Mr Curteis, Good luck today. My wife and I are both ex West Mercia Police Officers and both voted for you today as a breath of much needed fresh air. You are absolutely right and we need to get back to basics. I’m a bit of a dinosaur in terms of retiring from the CID in 2011 after 31 years, so I come from a different era of policing, but I went back as a financial investigator for a further 6 years until 2017 and couldn’t really believe what was happening to my beloved job. I was in uniform on shift, beats and response cars between 1980 and 1984 and remained CID based between 1984 and 2017, both mainstream CID, Fraud Squad and Financial Investigation (Economic Crime) so I speak with experience when I say I totally agree with your thoughts on the way forward. The actual core ‘job’ of a police officer is easy and values are, or should be, the same although what bolts onto that on a daily basis is what causes the aggravation. Good luck. Kind regards
