The deal makes it easier for EU goods to enter the UK, with lighter checks and smoother access across our borders. Brussels gets exactly what it wants, with almost nothing asked of them in return. But what did Labour secure for British farmers? Nothing at all. UK meat, dairy and other animal products will still face the full SIVEP inspections at the French border. These are the strict veterinary and food safety checks applied to all non EU countries, and they remain completely unchanged. Our exporters will continue to face delays, extra costs and mountains of red tape every time they try to trade with the EU. Labour did not negotiate a single reduction in these barriers. Not one. The reality is becoming harder to ignore. The EU is trying to hold Britain to ransom, demanding access to our market while refusing to ease the restrictions that are crippling our agricultural exports. And instead of pushing back, Labour has accepted a deal that favours the EU far more than it favours the UK. EU exporters gain easier access into Britain. British producers gain absolutely nothing in return. This is yet another example of weak negotiation and a complete failure to stand up for British agriculture. At a time when our farming sector needs certainty and support, the Government has delivered a deal that hands advantages to Brussels while leaving UK farmers at a clear and continuing disadvantage. Brexit is being used as a stick in which to beat us and the Governement is turning a blind eye and pandering to the EU because quite frankly they don’t want British farmers, nothing is clearer than that now.
