The Death of Civic Nationalism Or, more accurately — its murder. English Voice Feb 19

Where do your loyalties truly lie?
That is the question every English man and woman must now put to our politicians. Because it is becoming brutally clear: their loyalty is not to England, nor to the English people.
They keep ramming the word “British” down our throats as a cheap substitute for patriotism. But the sleight of hand no longer works. To millions of us, “British” has simply become code for “anyone from anywhere.” The Westminster elite have turned the word into a multicultural synonym — and they think we don’t notice.
Multiculturalism and identity politics were sold as the path to cohesion. Instead they have delivered division, resentment, and parallel societies. Minority communities are not integrating — no matter how loudly the elites insist otherwise. And notice the one-sided script: endless lectures telling us to celebrate diversity, zero pressure on newcomers to adopt the values, laws, and culture of the country they now call home.
I have spent years calling myself a civic nationalist. The organisation I lead — the Campaign for an English Parliament — has always stood for exactly that: an English Parliament with the same powers as Scotland’s, within a federal United Kingdom, open to everyone who lives and works in England, regardless of ethnicity.
That position is now untenable.
The political class has turned against the English with open contempt. As their multicultural experiment visibly collapses, they need a scapegoat. They have chosen us. “Multiculturalism failed because the English are racist” — that is their get-out clause. It is a lie that ignores the obvious: large numbers of ethnic minorities have no desire whatsoever to integrate into a shared British or English identity. They are content to live in segregated enclaves, under their own leaders and their own rules.
Our elites are not merely tolerating this — they are actively encouraging it. Segregation breeds division; division weakens England; a weakened England is easier to break apart. That is the strategy. First they carved England into artificial “regions.” Now they are engineering a two-tier society where different groups face different rules, different standards, and different consequences. Integration under these conditions is impossible.
Politicians talk of “civic multiculturalism.” It cannot exist. When one group senses it holds more power — legal, demographic, cultural — it will naturally seek dominance. Different ethnic groups do not peacefully coexist forever. They compete for resources, space, and political control. We are already watching sectarianism rise, ambitious ethnic politicians climb to power by mobilising their own bloc against everyone else, and community trust collapse.
Aristotle understood this 2,400 years ago: citizens need something in common. They must feel they belong to the same people. Without that shared identity, there is no community — only competing tribes.
And that is exactly what England has become: competing tribes. The native English — still the clear majority — are the only group under constant attack from our own rulers. We have been driven out of our cities by rapid population change, only to be told the countryside now has “too many of us.” Where, exactly, are we supposed to go? This is our homeland.
Under these conditions, civic nationalism is not dying. It has been murdered.
You cannot sustain civic nationalism while the state itself is fracturing the nation along ethnic lines. You cannot have a healthy democracy when the ruling class is actively destroying the cultural foundation that makes democracy possible.
That is why I now argue for Direct Democracy — a system that bypasses the discredited Westminster machine. But Direct Democracy demands a united country: one people who trust each other, respect free speech, and believe the state treats everyone equally. None of that exists while Westminster deliberately splinters us by ethnicity.
So watch your politicians. Not their slogans — their actions. Look at the places where power is now openly won on ethnic lines. Watch what happens to crime, school results, housing, trust, investment. When civic identity collapses, everything collapses. Just look at our inner cities.
And then the Prime Minister lectures us about “Pride in Place.” The sheer gall. How can any of us feel pride in a country his own government is tearing apart at the seams? Pride in the cities where we have already become minorities? Or in the countryside they plan to dilute next?
“Diversity is our strength,” they chant. Yes — it is their strength, and our weakness. A weak, divided England is far easier to erase as a nation.
The one ethnicity the elites truly fear — and openly deny even exists — is the English. Because English ethnicity awakens English nationalism. And by their every action, they have done the one thing they most dreaded: they have brought that identity roaring back to life.
If you love England, the time for polite civic pretence is over.
