England's gone mad

It will take a determined council official to remove the St George’s flags strung up along Torrington Avenue in Bristol to mark the World Cup. Firstly, there are hundreds of them, adorning nearly all 88 homes. Secondly, residents like Jordan Donaldson, a burly nightclub doorman, would make their objections clear.

“Let them try,” he says. “Why shouldn’t people fly the flag? My old man was on the beaches at Normandy, and I fly it for him and the England World Cup team. The council does nothing about the crackheads and junkies around here, but they make a fuss over flags – England’s gone mad.”
